Establishing cooperation with the Law Clinic of the University of Johannesburg - the beginning of an international network of legal clinics
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, a Letter of Intent was signed regarding the establishment of official cooperation between the Student Counseling Center of our Faculty (SPP WPiA UG) and the Law Clinic of the University of Johannesburg from South Africa (LC-UJ).
The letter was signed - on behalf of SPP WPiA UG - by the Head of the Counseling Center, Dr. Maciej Mikliński, and on behalf of LC-UJ - atty. Elton Romero Hart - Law Clinic Attorney.
Cooperation between both entities will include, among others: at online workshops and seminars, mutual consulting and advisory support, exchange of best practices and virtual meetings of students and supervisors from both legal clinics. If possible, we would also like to organize mutual visits of representatives of both clinics in Gdańsk and Johannesburg.
The signing of the agreement with the Law Clinic of the University of Johannesburg is the result of several years of contacts and cooperation between WPiA UG and the Faculty of Law of the University of Johannesburg - highly ranked in international rankings (according to the Times Higher Education by subject ranking: position 201-250 in the world). It is worth adding that the Legal Clinic in South Africa has existed for over 40 years and has played an important role in the fight against the totalitarian doctrine of apartheid.
The agreement with the Law Clinic of the University of Johannesburg is the first step towards implementing one of the latest projects of our Faculty in the field of academic international cooperation - building an international network of legal clinics as a partner network of the Student Counseling Center of the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk. Talks with other partners are already underway. We will inform about the effects in our media.
